Tennis

Ok Hawk-Eye has completely changed tennis in the last year. In some tournaments players have 3 appeals which means they can appeal against a decision that has gone against them. If they get there appeal correct they keep there appeal and if there appeal is wrong they lose an appeal. simple. Hawk-eye allows the fans and competitors to see the flow of the ball and see where it landed. I have a clip from the Dubai quarter final match between Nadal and Youzhny. If Youzhny wins the point he gets the set, so its a crucial point.

Right, u have seen how hawk eye works. How could the human eye tell if that was in or out. thats why hawk eye has changed the face of tennis so we can have correct decisions. Personally i feel it has added tension and excitement to the game and as a viewer throughly enjoy the anticipation factor of the hawk eye.

Whats your opinion on hawk eye??? how do you feel it has changed the game?? and how has it affected you as a viewer watching the match on your television or at a live game. opinions plz!!!

Hawk Eye in Cricket

Examples of Hawk-Eye in Cricket

LBWs
Viewers now expect Hawk-Eye’s verdict on lbw ‘shouts'. This gives commentators and viewers adequate time to discuss and digest the result before the next ball has been bowled.

Hawk-Eye helps to resolve the following three issues:
Would the ball have hit the stumps?
Did the ball pitch in-line?
Did the ball hit the batsman in-line?

Wagon Wheels
The singles, 2s, 3s, 4s and 6s that make up quick-fire 50s or vital centuries are represented by the different colours of the Wagon Wheel, which shows the areas of the field that the batsman has been targeting. Hawk-Eye now has the ability to display wagon wheels over photo realistic or virtual realistic backgrounds, giving broadcasters even more scope to taylor the Hawk-Eye 'look' towards the style of their production.

Pitch Maps
Simple yet effective; Pitch Maps make a useful pause for reflection after the frenetic exchanges of the opening overs and highlight a bowler’s consistency or expensiveness, line and length.

Hawk-Eye can now display comparative Pitch Maps in a split screen format, as shown in the example to the right.

Beehives
Beehives show where the ball has passed the batsman. As with the Pitch Map, the coloured balls correspond to the number of runs that the batsman has achieved from that delivery. Hawk-Eye Beehives can now be shown against a photo realistic or virtual realistic world, as with the Wagon Wheel feature.

Ball Speeds
Hawk-Eye now has the ability to supply ball speeds as reliably as a radar gun, as demonstrated during the ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa.

So how has this hawk eye helped you enjoy sport more?? has it helped the game itself improve? how beneficial has this hawkeye been to cricket?? opinions please!!!!!

Hawk Eye in Snooker

Snooker is another sport which uses the Hawk-eye system on the tele to help the audience understand the game more. Some examples of hawk-eye in snooekr are:
Players eye view: Hawk-Eye can show exactly what is in a player's line of vision when they are taking on a shot. If a player is playing an escape shot, attempting a long pot, or just looking to see if one ball can squeeze past another. This gives the viewer an indication of just how difficult the shot is to play.

Blue Dot: Players can strike the cue-ball in many places, causing the ball to react in a variety of different ways. Hawk-Eye can illustrate to the viewer exactly where contact with the cue ball should be made in order to produce the desired effect. The viewer is able to appreciate the complexity of the shot and can also take these lessons away to help their own play.

Animated Shots: This shows the audience a line where they want the cue ball to go once they have hit the other ball. This also shows if the player is snookered the options and what cushions he needs to go off. This shows the viewers how tricky the shot and makes them appreciate how good the shot is.

So What do you think?? how has Hawk-eye helped you in snooker?? how much do you beleive hawk-eye has improved your viewing and how has it helped snooker as a sport???

Video Technology in Football?? yes or no??

There continues to be a debate on whether technology in football should be used. At the present time The Premier League is to test a Hawk-Eye system, which will determine if a ball crosses the goal-line or not which is being tested out in Readings academy. This is so referees can make the correct decision in matches which means 3 pts can be going to the correct team. However isn't referees making wrong decisions is what football is all about???

Other video technology which could be used and fifa are also considering is video technology simply for the referees so they can judge whether a foul was a penalty/free kick, whether a player should be cautioned or sent off for there foul, and whether the player is offside. This again would help referees make the right decisions and referees will not be the talking point of a top game. Rob Styles is an example of this in the Liverpool vs Chelsea game earlier this season. A wrong penalty award to Chelsea cost Liverpool the 3 points and gave him a suspension of one week not refereeing. However football is a free flowing game unlike rugby. wouldnt all this technology stop the flow to the game.

Whats your opinion on this??? Do we need technology in football? if yes, what technology do we need. if no, why do you feel we dont need technology in football???
